The energy side, in plain terms

You buy an aircon twice: once at the register, then again on every power bill. The second purchase is the one people skip in the quote comparison, and it's often bigger.

  • Read the zoned label, not the stars. The Zoned Energy Rating Label shows real seasonal efficiency for your climate, hot, average and cold zones, which is the number that sets your bill.
  • Every degree costs ~10%. 24–25°C is the sweet spot. 21°C feels barely different after ten minutes and shows up clearly on the bill.
  • Old units cost double. A pre-2010 non-inverter unit can use twice the electricity of a current inverter split for the same cooling, replacement often part-funds itself.
  • Efficiency compounds over ten summers. The gap between an efficient unit and a cheap one is frequently bigger than their price difference on day one, spend your comparison time there, not on the badge.

What should a good quote include?
Six things, all in writing: the supply-and-install total with GST (one number), the unit brand, model and kW, what "standard install" covers and the rates beyond it, a 5-year parts-and-labour warranty, the installer's license number, and who handles any strata or council paperwork. If they won't put one of these in writing, that's your answer.
Is AirconPrices free? What's the catch?
Free for homeowners, no catch on your side: installers pay us for the introduction, the way most trade platforms work. The difference is the cap, your job goes to a maximum of 3 installers ever, so you get competition without your number being sold around town.
Where do your prices come from?
Compiled from real installation quotes and corrected continuously as new quote data comes through the site, the full pipeline is on our methodology page. Prices are published as ranges because that's what honesty looks like; a single number would be marketing.
How fast do quotes arrive?
Your job is sent to matched installers within about a minute of submitting. Responses typically start within the hour in business hours, and texting a photo of the room or old unit to your installers speeds things further, photo jobs can often be quoted without a site visit.
Do I have to accept any of the quotes?
No. No obligation, no follow-up campaign. Plenty of people use the quotes to sanity-check a price they already had, that's a legitimate use of the site.
What size aircon do I need?
The working rule is 120–150 watts per square metre, a 30m² lounge needs roughly 4–4.5kW. Sun exposure and climate push it up from there. Our size calculator does this properly in thirty seconds.
